Salaries effective July 1, 2025:
PGY-1: $63,757
PGY-2: $69,134
PGY-3: $71,853 (chief resident will get an extra $5,000 annually)
Signing Bonus
Every first year resident shall receive $8,000 as a signing bonus. This money may be used to help with moving expenses or anything the incoming resident desires.
Cell Phone Subsidy
Every resident receives a monthly smart phone subsidy.
CME Expenses
Every resident receives an annual CME allowance. First year residents receive a minimum of $1,000 to purchase educational materials but can receive up to $1,500 to attend an off-site CME meeting. Second and third year residents receive a minimum of $1,500 to cover CME materials but can receive up to $2,000 if they attend an off-site CME meeting.
USMLE / COMLEX Step III Reimbursement
First-time test-takers will receive reimbursement for the USMLE or COMLEX Step III examination.
ABFM Board Certification Exam Reimbursement
Every third year resident who takes and passes the ABFM board certification exam in April will be reimbursed $1,100. All residents, regardless of a pass or fail on the ABFM exam, will be reimbursed $200 for sharing the score report with the Education Coordinator.
License / DEA
To encourage moonlighting by licensed residents, the program covers the cost for Indiana License and Federal DEA Registration.

Health & Dental Insurance
Residents participating in the high deductible health care plan receive a monthly stipend to offset the cost of the single premium. Dental and vision are also available. Coverage for dependents is available at an additional cost. -
Liability Protection (Malpractice)
Insurance is paid in full. The policy covers residents for all activities undertaken as a part of the residency program, or at the request of Union Hospital. Independent moonlighting activities are not covered. -
Life Insurance
Term life insurance equal to annual salary is provided to residents. Additional coverage may be purchased. -
Disability Insurance
Long-term disability insurance is provided. Short-term disability insurance may be purchased. -
Moonlighting
Moonlighting is not permitted during the first year of residency. Up to 50 hours per month is permitted during the second and third years. -
Parking
Residents may park on campus at no charge. -
Miscellaneous Benefits
403b (retirement plan for non-profit institutions); dependent care available; flexible benefits plan; dependent health, dental and life insurance policies are available for additional fees. -
Uniforms
Uniforms for residents are provided. -
Meals
All meals are provided while on duty. -
Fitness Center
Located in Union Hospital, the award winning fitness center is available to residents and their families. Residents receive a free membership. -
Facilities
Union Hospital Family Medicine Center; 25 support staff members. -
Technology
Laptop computer and a wide variety of online tools including UpToDate, Sanford Guide, Clinical Key, Epocrates, Challenger, AAFP Board Review Course, and AMA GME Competency Education Program Modules. -
Medical Libraries
Libraries are available at the Family Medicine Center and at Union Hospital; a staff assistant is available at the hospital library. - Resident Wellness:
