Residency Life

Each year the program welcomes residents from all over the world to this community. Outside of the clinical setting, our residents enjoy time with their families and friends, and oftentimes bond closely with fellow residents.

Call Schedule

First year residents will take 45 nights of night shift. During that time, the resident will also be spending rotation time in the emergency room. Night shift consists of 13 hour evening shifts (6PM-7AM). During the night shift experience, the first year resident is under the supervision, and in collaboration with, an upper level resident and gradually increases his/her responsibility for managing the following:

  • Inpatient family medicine service
  • Inpatient pediatrics
  • Managing codes
  • Performing necessary procedures such as central line placement
  • After Hours phone calls from ICU
  • Hospital admissions from our practice, Valley Professionals Community Health Center (VPCHC) and the practice of other physicians for whom we provide coverage.

Second year residents will spend approximately 35 nights of in-house night shift.

Third year residents will spend approximately 17 nights of in-house night shift.

Upper level residents will be providing night shift supervision for interns on a rotating basis.
