Manju Thothala Dr. Manju Thothala, now beginning her third year of residency training at Union Hospital, was honored at the American Geriatrics Society national conference that took place in mid-May in Orlando, Florida. Dr. Thothala submitted an academic poster entitled, "Readmissions - Does it increase with age?" Her poster won first place in the category of Research on Health Services and Public Policy at the Resident's Poster Session. Her research was a follow up to a third place finish at last year's conference in the same category for her poster entitled, "Is there an Association Between Advancing Age and Readmission Rate?" Click here to view Dr. Thothala's poster.

 

 

 

Seven new residents will join the Union Hospital Family Medicine Residency in July.

Washington D.C., — On July 7, 2015, U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly welcomed the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Announcement that the Lugar Center for Rural Health at Union Hospital, Inc. will receive a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Primary Care Training Enhancement Grant award. Donnelly wrote a letter in February 2015 in support of the Center’s application. The Lugar Center for Rural Health at Union Hospital will use the $1,037,383 grant —over a five-year period—to support important training in geriatrics at Union Hospital’s Family Medicine Residency program.

The Union Hospital Family Medicine Residency has been selected as a recipient of the 2015 AAFP Senior Immunization Grant Award! The American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation awarded the grant for the project entitled, "Working in Teams: A Community Effort to Improve Senior Immunization Rates." The grant will provide $10,000 to the Union Hospital Family Medicine Residency to provide health education to patients and the community as well as free flu and pneumonia vaccinations. Resident physicians are scheduled to speak at local Dine with a Doc luncheons throughout the community from October 2015 through March 2016 to educate seniors on a variety of health topics and administer vaccinations. MeghanWilliams

Meghan Williams, Pharm.D., BCPS, has joined the staff at Union Hospital's Family Medicine Center Meghan Williams, Pharm.D, BCPS(FMC) as a full-time Clinical Pharmacist. Williams, a Terre Haute native, has been at Union since 2011 as an Inpatient Clinical Pharmacist. In that role, she was also involved in the education of Union's pharmacy residents, serving as a preceptor during the residents' cardiology and nutrition support rotations. Similarly, in her new position, she will serve as Pharmacy faculty for the Family Medicine Residency.
